Forging New Paths in Ink: An Exhibition of Liu Kuo-Sung Documents from the 1940s to the 1980s

Teh-Chun Art Gallery of the Department of Fine Arts, NTNU
April 16, 2022

This year marks the 90th birthday of Chair Professor Liu Kuo-sung. In celebration of his profound contributions to the postwar reform of ink painting in Taiwan, the Department of Fine Arts at the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and the Liu Kuo-sung Foundation co-organized Forging New Paths in Ink: An Exhibition of Liu Kuo-sung Documents from the 1940s to the 1980s, which opened on 16 April at the Teh-Chun Art Gallery of the Department of Fine Arts, NTNU.

The exhibition showcases a rich array of rare first-hand archival materials—letters and manuscripts, photographic records, newspaper and magazine clippings, exhibition catalogues and published books—documenting Liu’s remarkable achievements from the 1940s to the 1980s. It vividly presents the legacy of this influential figure, who stands as a pioneering artist, critic and educator in the development of modern ink painting.
