The year-end blockbuster exhibition To the Moon: Liu Kuo-sung opened on December 21 at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition features 64 works by Liu Kuo-sung, spanning five major series categorized by subject and technique: Calligraphic Abstraction, Space, Water-rubbing, Ink-steeping and Tibet. Together they reflect the breadth of Liu’s creative life over the past half-century. In addition to the artworks, a wealth of precious archival materials—such as handwritten letters and manuscripts—is also on view.
Sponsored by HTC, the exhibition also includes a new Virtual Reality work titled Which is Earth? by new-media artist Huang Hsin-Chien, which reconstructs Liu’s iconic ink landscapes through immersive technology.
The exhibition serves both as a heartfelt tribute to Liu’s 70 years in Taiwan (1949–2019) and as a celebration of his lifelong creative persistence—echoing the same spirit of exploration and determination that marked mankind’s landing on the Moon half a century ago.
