Liu Kuo-sung’s Work Exhibited in “Ink Dreams: Selections from the Fondation INK Collection” at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art

September 19, 2021

The exhibition Ink Dreams: Selections from the Fondation INK Collection, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, marks the first public display of the INK Foundation’s collection. The 53 participating artists come from Asia, Europe and the Americas, and include Shirazeh Houshiary, Liu Kuo-sung, Lui Shou-kwan, Chen Hai-yan, Lin Tian-miao, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Yang Jiecang, Xu Bing, Yao Jui-Chung, Yang Shih-Chih, and Wu Chi-tsung.

The exhibition is presented in three sections—Apparitions, Meditations and Dreamscapes —and showcases 78 artworks. Each section follows the evolutionary shifts of the relevant creative concepts in Chinese ink painting, exploring—through painting, photography, sculpture and video—the visual characteristics of the interplay of black and white, void and solid; the abstract expression of religious imagery; and new practices in traditional Chinese landscape painting.

Three pieces by Liu Kuo-sung are featured—Day Break, Sea of Floating Ice and It’ll Soon Be White All Over—displayed in the Apparitions and Dreamscapes sections.
